Day 52 You are a Delight!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

At a recent conference of high-power politicians, someone asked: What is the greatest thing in the world? It got absolutely quiet. None of the big public influencers had an answer to this question.

Finally a young aide (ha! :) took the microphone and said, "The greatest thing in the world is that we can walk away from yesterday."

Isn't the good news of the Christian faith is we can walk away from yesterday? Paul walked away from persecuting Christians and followed Christ. The woman found in adultery walked away from her accusers and her lifestyle into a new journey with Jesus. Matthew walked away from his job as a crooked tax collector and followed Christ into a new life. The prodigal son walked away from his moral failures and into the loving, forgiving arms of his father.

To walk away from the failures and guilt of yesterday is at the very heart of forgiveness. This is not a call to cop out, drop out, or otherwise escape responsibility or consequences: but it is a liberating to be absolutely certain that no one, absolutely no one, is tied to a past from which there is no release.

The gospel shouts with joy at new beginnings. Aren't you glad you have been released from your past? I am!
