Day 43 Okay, so this pic is not a woman....
...but it was so "radical," I had to use it! Here's the devotion it doesn't fit:
Do you see this woman? Luke 7:44
It's a weird question. This is the story about the woman with the alabaster jar who washes Jesus' feet with her hair. Jesus asks Simon, the homeowner, this question.
It's because women in Jewish culture were property, had no rights, and were not to be seen or heard. This woman crashes Simon's party, lets down her hair in public (gasp!), and makes a loud, smelly scene whose awkwardness is impossible to ignore.
The thing is, Jesus knows that Simon really doesn't see the woman woman spiritually the way he does. Jesus knows that the woman is pouring out her deepest feelings of thanksgiving and love toward God from that perfume jar. It's a sacred moment of unconditional surrender and devotion to God.
What about such a radical outpouring of emotion for God? This kind of expression of affection to Jesus can be healthy and pleasing in God's sight. In fact, like this woman, a truly forgiven Christian pours out her love of Jesus.
We need Jesus' eyes to see and honor the beauty of this kind of great love when a forgiven sinner, like us, shows it.
God, help us to see, show, and welcome radical love for you today. Amen.
